Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Hong Kong has had a hot season so far. We have sweated through a record-breaking June, the hottest in a century, as temperatures hovered around 30 degrees! But we are not complaining – the sun is a welcome part of our weekends as we enjoy Hong Kong’s amazing beaches, hikes and waterways. But we do have to remember to stay hydrated. This is especially important for our elderly and young ones. So today we are going to talk about Coconut Water and its all-mighty capabilities as a thirst quencher.

Coconut water, cracked straight from the shell, is a tasty alternative to water. It is extremely low in fat and calories making it appropriate to guzzle on on a hot and sticky summer’s day! If you are sweating it out, coconut water has been proven to be more effective in hydrating the body than sugary sports drinks. During exercise, we lose mineral-rich fluids; coconut water contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium – all of which are well-received post a sweat session and when combating a hangover!

Coconut water, when consumed, is also great for your skin – adding moisture and antibacterial properties to help your skin glow from the inside out! Goodbye pimples! You can enjoy coconut water as a stand-alone beverage – find them fresh from fruit and vegetable vendors around the city and most beaches around Hong Kong also crack them for you! Add a straw and off you go! If you are wanting some spice in your drink, you can combine the coconut water with other liquid content. At Genie Juicery we have quite a few beverages containing coconut water – Hawaii H20, Green Dream, Coco Rush & Crazy For Coconut! Drop by and hydrate today!

Please let it be noted that we only use fresh coconut water in our drinks. We crack our coconuts individually and taste-test everyone so as not to get a rotten batch! As with all of our other drinks, we add no preservatives so these drinks do expire. Coconut waters you see on your supermarket shelves claim to be preservative-free however, without some sort of processing, these drinks would not be able to survive for long periods on the shelf.
